About Us
We, the members of St. Peter Church, Antioch, Illinois, see in the birth of each baby a fresh expression of God's unfailing love. We help women of all ages, ethnic groups and religious backgrounds.
Project Gabriel is a group of Catholic parishes standing together in their commitment to offer assistance to women and families facing crisis pregnancies. The project is sponsored by The Respect Life Office of the Archdiocese of Chicago in conjunction with the Joliet Diocesan Life Office.
How Project Gabriel Works
Participating congregations “advertise” their commitment to those who are pregnant by placing car magnets on their bumpers. These magnets display the hotline phone number, “Pregnant? Need help? Please call us: 888-4-HOPE-4-1.” Some congregations are also able to place a Project Gabriel yard sign on the grounds of their parish. With these two main avenues of advertising, word gets out and women in need (or their family/friend) call the hotline number.
The hotline (888-4-HOPE-4-1) is answered by a volunteer consultant. If the caller is abortion-minded, she will be listened to and helped to discern the fear that is driving her to the conclusion that abortion is her only option. She will be lovingly educated about abortion alternatives, and she may be prayed for and with, if appropriate. Depending on the needs of the caller, she may be referred for an in-person visit to a pregnancy help center in her area, to a local Gabriel church, and/or to other community resources.
If the mother is referred to our parish’s Project Gabriel Ministry, a team of Angels will get in contact with her within 24 hours. From there, the entire parish supports the Ministry as they provide for the mother.
**Please see our Vision and Mission Statements for further details about the project.**
